Wake

by Shelley Burr

Not since The Dry by Jane Harper (2016) have I been more excited about a debut Australian author – and there have been a treasure trove in recent years! I didn’t want to miss a page as tension grew with every chapter. With convincing characters, empathy built and you cared for a positive outcome.

It is nearly twenty years since Mina’s twin sister disappeared from their rural NSW farmhouse. Mina remains the farm’s sole resident, ‘living on’ in the hope her sister would be found or return. Underneath the public face, Mina never gives up hope of resolving Evie’s mysterious disappearance.

Lane Holland is a Private Investigator, meticulous and sharply focused in his pursuit as he enters the small town of Nannine. He’s determined to fit the pieces together but why does he only pursue specific cases and why the desperation to bring closure for Mina?

Lane and Mina are characters that are hard to leave behind, long after the turn of the last page.
